This term we are exploring and investigating Australian Federation. How Australia was before Federation, how Federation came about, and what effects it had on our nation. Now in 2014 Australia is a unified country – but this was not always the case.
The focus themes for this term are:
1. What was Australia like before Federation?
2. What were the differing opinions on Federation between the different people of the ear and the states themselves?
3. What was the sequence of historical events that lead to Federation, and what were these events?
4. What was the effect on Australia and the cultural groups within Australia?
5. Explore the stories of groups of people who involved or effected by Federation.

Investigate what life was like in Australia at the time of Federation by examining a 'time capsule' containing seven key objects used at the time of Federation. Students explore the meaning of these objects to reveal their role in our national identity and their importance in the Federation process. The seven objects in this unit are:
